The skills of playing table tennis are the following:
Standing skill and feet movement
The tennis player must know the correct way to stand the body in the correct position as well. The standing position depends to some extent on the player’s grip, and his condition if he is going to defend or serve the ball. The way to stand correctly and with a proper position gives balance, stability, control of strikes and receiving them professionally.
The skill of holding the bat
In addition to the method of standing and the movement of the feet, the skill of holding the racket and the method of the player in that, and there are two basic types of gripping the tennis racket, namely: the handshake grip, and the grip of the pen.
Strike skill
Strikes in the game of table tennis are useful for forcing the opponent to make mistakes in the game, and thus obtaining additional points, and it also makes the process of presenting front and back strikes miss the opponent, which leads to obtaining points as well.
The forehand stroke is one of the strokes that beginners learn and are used most of the match. There are also backhand strokes that must be learned by a tennis player, where the player needs to use the racket to hit the top of the ball and keep it at a closed angle to get a sufficient number of turns.
Ball kick skill
Front and back pushes are used to return short passes, and short passes mean that the opponent hits the ball quickly and repeatedly, so it falls and lands to the side near the net. When short passes occur, the tennis player leans forward so that he is close to the ball and the net.
Ball spinning skill
The skill of rotating the ball is one of the important skills for the purposes of attack and defense in play, as the opponent cannot read the player’s next steps in the way of playing and hitting the ball, and there are several ways and skills to rotate the tennis ball while playing, and among these methods are the following:
- Top spin: It occurs when the racket swings from bottom to top.
- Bottom rotation: It is the opposite of the upper rotation, in which the direction of the racket is from top to bottom.
- Left-handed rotation: It occurs when the ball is rotated to the left side.
- Right-side spin: Occurs when the racket touches the ball going from left to right.
Attack skill
There are many types and methods of attack in playing table tennis, which are based on the way the player uses his wrist and forearm, and among these methods are the following:
Frontal attack
In the front attack, the player uses short passes while changing the direction and speed of the ball to cause errors on the part of the opponent, as this method prevents errors on the part of the player and at the same time you need to master the strikes and speed in receiving rebound balls from the opponent.
Back attack
The back attack method is formed in the same way as the front attack, but it occurs with the back of the hand on the racket, and the back attack is useful in responding to short serves from the opponent's side, especially if they are at a certain angle.
